What is travel insurance?

Travelling is all about discovering the unknown, so it’s no surprise that there can be a few hiccups along the way! Travel insurance is designed to better protect you from these unexpected events, from the moment you book your trip to the day you return home. Whether you have an unexpected flight delay or medical emergency, we’re here to help. Let us worry about what could go wrong, so you can start dreaming about what will go right.

How to compare travel insurance

What can travel insurance cover?°

We offer cover for unexpected events, so you can travel with peace of mind. We know each traveller and trip is different - that’s why we offer different policies and add ons so you can choose the type and level of cover you need - which may, or may not, include some of the scenarios below. As with any insurance policy, terms, conditions and exclusions apply so always make sure you read the Policy Document before buying your travel insurance policy to make sure it is right for you.

° Please refer to the individual Policy Documents to see what your chosen policy covers.

See what's covered

We offer travel insurance that suits how you want to travel

We know how important it is to make sure you have the right type - and level - of cover, so we have different travel insurance policies to suit different types of travel, and the ability to personalise your cover to suit you with our optional add-ons. Whether you’re heading to Fiji for some R&R, London for an OE or Queenstown to hit the slopes, we’re with you.

Have questions?

  • If your pre-existing medical condition was previously covered, and is now not covered for your upcoming trip:

When assessing medical conditions, along with assessing the medical condition itself, we also take into account the main destination you are travelling to, your age, and your answers to the questions. If any of these variables have changed since you last completed a medical assessment, the results may differ. In addition to this, we also regularly review our medical underwriting criteria based on global claiming data. This means that medical assessment results may differ from time to time.

If your medical condition isn't recognised when purchasing a policy:

Please check the spelling of your medical condition. If you're unsure of the spelling, type in the first few letters then select 'Search'. If this is unsuccessful, you may wish to check with your GP whether you have the correct name and spelling. We cannot assess a condition that has not been diagnosed, so if you are entering symptoms no results will appear.
It could also be that the medical condition is rare, therefore there may not be enough global claiming data available to help us assess the potential travel related risks to provide cover for this.
If you are still experiencing issues with finding your medical condition, please email us at info@scti.co.nz.

    Medical assessment costs:

Additional premiums apply if you've completed a medical assessment and cover has been accepted for your pre-existing medical condition. Similar to above, the assessment outcome and the additional premium charged will depend on the potential travel related risk of the medical condition, (which is based on global claiming data), and take into consideration your main destination, your age, and the answers you provided when completing the medical questionnaire.

If your medical condition is not covered:

If you completed a medical assessment and you received an 'excluded' result after answering all the assessment questions correctly, we are unable to make any changes to this result. Unfortunately, we won't be able to offer any cover for that pre-existing medical condition.

Providing reports from GPs or specialists:

As you are completing a medical assessment online, we won't need any supporting documentation such as letters from specialists or GPs. You will know whether cover is provided or not instantly, once you've completed a medical assessment.

If you have any questions regarding pre-existing medical conditions, please feel free to contact our team at info@scti.co.nz
