Exploring what the future of travel looks like in New Zealand

As New Zealand’s leading travel insurer, Southern Cross Travel Insurance is committed to being with Kiwis on their journey now, and in the future.

In partnership with research agency YouGov, Southern Cross Travel Insurance surveyed more than 1,000 New Zealanders to better understand their feelings towards travel and investigate the impact of the cost of living crisis on travel behaviours in the foreseeable future.

The research took place in January 2024.

We found that travel is still a top priority for many Kiwis

A quick glance at what the research tells us

51% of New Zealanders planning to travel in the next 12 months consider travel to be more important than other discretionary spending, with nearly 10% saying it’s their top priority.

17% of Millennials claimed travel is their top priority when it comes to discretionary spending, significantly more than any other generation.

79% of New Zealand travellers rank price as one of the three most important features of travel insurance.
