Feefo Trusted Service Awards – 2021
We’re super proud to have won the Feefo Trusted Service Award for 2021. The awards recognise businesses that deliver exceptional experiences, as rated by the people who count – actual customers.
We’ve worked hard to support our customers over the past year. As well as helping Kiwis stranded overseas get home safely, we were also the first travel insurer in New Zealand to start proactively offering refunds to customers that were unable to travel due to the pandemic, waiving our usual cancellation fees.
We also strengthened our commitment to making sure customers know what they’re covered for by writing our new policy document in plain language. In doing so, we became the first travel insurer in New Zealand to have its domestic travel insurance policy awarded the WriteMark - an independent endorsement awarded to documents that achieve a high standard of plain language.
The Trusted Service Awards are given only to businesses that use Feefo to collect genuine reviews and insights, and who meet the high standard based on the number of reviews they have collected and their average rating.
A highly valued badge of approval, this accreditation remains unique as it is based purely on interactions with real customers and is a true reflection of a business’s commitment to outstanding service. Our current Feefo rating (as of 26 January 2021) is 4/5 stars based on 87 service ratings over the past year.
Reader’s Digest Quality Service Award – 2021
For the second year in a row, we’re delighted to have won gold in the travel insurance category in the Reader’s Digest Quality Service Awards.
The awards are facilitated every year to determine which New Zealand organisations have delivered the most outstanding customer service. Consumers rate organisations on personalisation, understanding, simplicity and satisfaction.
After the outbreak of COVID-19, our team moved quickly to support customers and deliver exceptional customer service at a time when it was needed most. This included helping Kiwis get home safely from overseas, proactively offering refunds for policies and waiving cancellation fees for those unable to travel due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
Despite international travel being severely reduced, we focused our efforts on launching new initiatives to continue to support our customers. This has included responding to changing travel trends and launching a domestic travel insurance product to give Kiwis peace of mind while on holiday in New Zealand.
Reader’s Digest commission an independent market research agency to survey a representative sample of 1,500 New Zealand adults. Respondents were asked to nominate a service provider in up to 40 categories. To qualify to vote on a category, they must have used a service provider from that industry.
Canstar 2020 Travel Insurance Award – International Travel
We are incredibly proud to have once again been awarded the competitive ‘Outstanding Value International Travel Insurance Award’ for 2020. This award recognises insurers who offer outstanding value to consumers.
Canstar also recognised the outstanding value our TravelCare product offers for destinations, such as Fiji, France, Japan and the United Arab Emirates, by awarding us with their Five Star rating. Canstar Star Ratings represent a shortlist of products that have been assessed and ranked, using a sophisticated and unique rating methodology that compares both price and features across travel insurance products.
Canstar’s awards and ratings are designed to help Kiwis choose outstanding value travel insurance, wherever they choose to travel.
This award is testament to the hard work that goes into delivering a great customer experience with flexible product offerings that are specifically tailored to meet our customer needs and requirements.

Reader’s Digest conducts the Quality Service Awards survey every year to uncover New Zealand businesses across different industries, who have gone above and beyond their customers' expectations.
The awards are voted purely by New Zealand consumers, with 1,500 Kiwis surveyed on their service experience across 40 categories. Respondents rate organisations on four key pillars of customer service; personalisation, understanding, simplicity and satisfaction.

Canstar is an independent consumer research and ratings organisation helping New Zealanders find great quality products and services. We’re honoured that this industry-leading organisation has rated Southern Cross Travel Insurance as the best value out of 30 providers!

According to their website, the awards celebrate “companies who have gone above and beyond their customer’s expectation”.
