A guide to making sure your baggage stays insured

Lost, stolen or damaged luggage is a traveller’s nightmare. But when the unexpected happens, it’s nice to know that we’ve got your back.

In this video, we explain how you can ensure your luggage stays covered under your TravelCare policy, and if things do go wrong, what we will need to process a claim.

So, you’re taking us with you on holiday. We’d like to clear up a few things in plain English to help you understand some of the ways we can cover your stuff and to make sure that it stays covered.

Firstly, travel insurance is for covering unexpected events. We can’t cover your stuff if it isn’t secure or you leave it unattended.

  • If it’s valuable keep it on you locked in your hotel safe.
  • If your stuff is lost, stolen, or damaged, you’ll need to report it to the police, security or appropriate authorities and get a written report.
  • If your stuff was in custody of a service provider at the time of loss, you’ll need to report it to them.
  • If you are going to make a claim, we’ll need to see receipts or some other proof of ownership and value, like a store reprint of your receipt.

Your personal items are covered at their original purchase price less depreciation. This is based on the age of the item. If you want to cover your higher value items, you’ll need to specify them and provide proof of ownership and their current value.

Travel insurance is for the unexpected, so remember to look after your stuff, so we can look after the rest
