The UK and USA governments recently introduced a new directive regarding electronic devices and electrical items being banned from hand luggage.
Refer to www.safetravel.govt.nz for relevant government travel advice regarding the ban.
SCTI will make an exception to the terms and conditions of the TravelCare policy to offer provision of cover for electronic devices that are lost, stolen or damaged during your journey while in checked luggage for those directly affected by the electronic device ban.
This exception only applies to Section 3 of the TravelCare policy, and is only for electronic devices that are banned from hand luggage while travelling from the affected countries/airports as stated above.
This exception will only be applicable while the electronic device ban is in force.
For customers not directly affected by the electronic device ban, the full terms and conditions of the TravelCare policy will apply. Please refer to ‘Section 3 – Baggage & Personal Items’ in your PDS, including Policy Wording for further information.
If you are unsure if your travel is affected, please contact your service provider in the first instance.
If you submit a claim with us, please send the following:
- Original receipts for any personal items you are claiming.
- Documents (such as itineraries) that show us your travel plans.
- Documentation from your service provider stating their policy regarding the electronic device ban.
The relevant policy excess will apply to all claims.
There is no provision of cover to make a claim to cancel or alter your trip due to the electronic device ban.
Tips for travellers
- Keep a note of what you’ve packed in your checked luggage, ideally take a picture.
- Try and keep an eye on your bags as they go down the conveyer belt and be mindful of any signs of tampering e.g. broken handles or zip.
- Be kind to your electronic devices and give them proper padding. You can even use your clothes to cushion the impact should they be jostled around in your bags.
- Ensure you have a lock on your luggage – we recommend a combination lock to ensure only you have access to it.
- Back up any important information before you travel abroad to ensure you don’t lose out on any important memories or documents.
