Be sure you’re covered – everywhere you go

It is easy to ensure you are covered for all the countries you plan to visit - just make sure you tell us all of the countries you plan to visit.

How do I know which countries to select?

If you plan to enter a country - even for a stopover – you should include it in the destinations you list. Just start typing the country and it will appear in the list for you to select.

When you select cover for some countries, we may include some additional destinations within a similar region for no additional cost. You will know if this applies, as a message with a list of all the countries included will pop up.

You can double check that you have included all countries by checking the list that appears under your ‘travel information’ when you get a quote. If you need to add any, you can click ‘edit’ to make a change.

What if I forget to include a stopover or my travel plans change?

You can add countries to your policy for additional cover, provided you have not already arrived in those destinations. An additional premium may apply for this cover.

What if I’m just in transit?

If you’re just ‘in-transit’, as in you don’t clear customs and stay within the transit area at the airport, then you don’t need to include that country as a destination.

How do I know what countries aren’t covered?

We do not offer cover for destinations that the New Zealand Government has issued a travel advisory risk rating or ‘High’ or ‘Extreme’. As these can change, we strongly recommend you check our travel alerts page, or (the New Zealand Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade website) for the list of countries and regions affected both before you purchase your travel insurance, and prior to your departure date.

If, after you have purchased a policy for a destination, a new travel advisory risk rating of ‘High’ or ‘Extreme’ is issued, please contact us for advice on what you are covered for under your policy.

One-off trip or frequent flyer - get the cover you need

Selecting a policy should be simple, we think, so we have two policy types for you to choose from.

Single Journey

For one-off travel, getaways or your annual holiday perhaps, our Single Journey policy gives you cover for the entire journey to one, or multiple, destinations. You can purchase travel cover for one trip lasting up to 365 days.

Remember, if you book your travel insurance in advance, you are also covered for cancellation and alteration costs prior to your departure – and there is no additional cost for this pre-travel cover.

Annual Frequent Traveller (Multi-Trip)

If you’re planning on taking more than three trips a year, our Annual Frequent Traveller policy might be a more cost (and time) effective choice than shopping around for travel insurance every time you travel. Once purchased, you’re covered for a period of 12 months from the date you select, regardless of how many times you travel, for journeys up to 90 days.

Travelling alone, or with your family

Our individual policies cover you and any dependent children travelling with you, on the same itinerary.

You can also choose to cover all the family - up to two adults and your dependent children - on one family policy.

Dependent children (aged 17 years and under) are covered for free under the policy of their guardian(s), provided they are primarily dependent on their parent or guardian named on the policy. Please note there is limited cover for children aged 15 years or younger under the ‘Personal Accident’ section. However, full cover is extended to everyone listed on a policy for all the other sections of the policy including ‘Medical and Evacuation’ for an unexpected illness or injury.
