If you have a family and love to travel together, the good news is that kids go free on your travel insurance policy. All you need to do is add them under ‘Travellers’ Details’ when applying online to ensure they are named on the certificate of insurance and covered. That gives many parents some well-deserved peace of mind! Note the child or children named must be primarily dependent on you (the policy holder) - in other words, they can’t be self-sufficient and have a full-time job.
When we talk about ‘dependent children’ with regard to your travel insurance, it can mean your unmarried children, stepchildren, foster children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews who are 17 years old or younger on the start date of your insurance, and primarily dependent on you.
It may be of interest to know that there is no cover for children aged 15 years or younger for any claims, costs or losses under the ‘Personal Accident’ section. This section is designed to cover adults that can no longer continue their full time employment when they return to New Zealand due to an unexpected injury that occurs whilst on their journey. However, there are no age restrictions relating to cover for unexpected accidents or injuries under the ‘Medical & Evacuation’ section.
