Selecting your destinations
It's easy to ensure you're covered for all the countries you plan to visit - just make sure you add all your destinations you'll be travelling to when getting a quote.
How do I know which countries to select?
For a Single Trip Policy, you must select all destinations you will be visiting on your journey, which you wish to be covered by your policy, except for transit stops of 24 hours or less where you remain in the airport.
For the Annual Multi-Trip Policy, you must select all destinations that you will be visiting/or intend to visit during the 12-month cover period, which you wish to be covered by your policy, except for transit stops of 24 hours or less where you remain in the airport.
When you select cover for some countries, we may include some additional destinations within a similar region for no additional cost. You will know if this applies, as a message with a list of all the countries included will pop up.
You can double check that you have included all countries by checking the list that appears under your ‘travel information’ when you get a quote. If you need to add any, you can click ‘edit’ to make a change.
How do I know what countries aren’t covered?
We do not offer cover for destinations that the New Zealand Government has issued a travel advisory risk rating of ‘Avoid non-essential travel’ or ‘Do not travel’ prior to your start date of insurance (on a Single Trip policy), or your start date of insurance and prior to the date which any part of each journey is booked and/or paid for (on an Annual Multi-Trip policy).
As these can change, we strongly recommend you check www.safetravel.govt.nz (the New Zealand Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade website) for the list of countries and regions affected immediately prior to:
- applying for this policy;
- your start date of insurance;
- your start date of journey;
- your departure to each destination (if you are travelling to multiple destinations during your journey),
If, after you have purchased a policy for a destination, a new travel advisory risk rating of ‘Avoid non-essential travel’ or ‘Do not travel’ is issued, please contact us for advice on what you are covered for under your policy.
Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip – get the cover you need
Selecting a policy should be simple, we think, so we have two policy types for you to choose from.
For one-off travel, getaways or your annual holiday perhaps, our Single Trip Policy gives you cover for a single return journey overseas to one, or multiple, destinations. You can purchase travel cover for one trip lasting up to 12 months. You must select all destinations that you will be visiting on your journey for which you wish to be covered by your Single Trip Policy except for transit stops of 24 hours or less where you remain in the airport.
Remember, if you book your travel insurance in advance, you are also covered for cancellation and alteration costs prior to your departure.
If you’re planning on taking several journeys a year, our Annual Multi-Trip policy might be a more cost (and time) effective choice than shopping around for travel insurance every time you travel. You must select all destinations that you will be visiting or you intend to visit during your 12 months of cover except for transit stops of 24 hours or less where you remain in the airport. Once purchased, you’ll be covered for an unlimited number of return journeys overseas. You can choose to have journeys covered up to a maximum of 30, 60 or 90-days in length.
If you buy a ‘Family’ Annual Multi-Trip Policy, the adults on the Certificate of Insurance can travel independently, however any dependent children named on the Certificate of Insurance are only covered if travelling with an adult named on the same Certificate of Insurance.
